10 Jamaicans for IAAF Continental Cup

first_imgTen Jamaican athletes will compete at next month’s IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava. Led by two former World Champions in Yohan Blake and Danielle Williams, the Jamaicans will be part of the Americas team that will compete against Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Europe contingents in a two-day team contest set for September 8 and 9. The full list contains 2011 100 metres World champion Blake; 2015 World 100m hurdles winner Williams; 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal winners Fedrick Dacres, Danielle Thomas-Dodd, Aisha Praught-Leer, and Ronald Levy; 2014 Commonwealth 400 metre queen Stephenie McPherson; new national 800m record holder Natoya Goule; sprinter Shericka Jackson; hurdler Andre Clarke; and World Cup 100 winner Tyquendo Tracey. Blake and Williams will compete in the 100m and the 100m hurdles, respectively, with Dacres in the discus; Thomas-Dodd in the shot put; Praught-Leer in the 3000m steeplechase; and Levy in the 110m hurdles. McPherson, Goule, and Clarke take aim in the 400m, 800m, and 400m hurdles. Tracey is part of the Americas 4x100m relay pool. The Americas team also includes in-form US sprinters Noah Lyles and Jenna Prandini; Olympic champions Ryan Crouser of the USA (shot), Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas (200m), and Colombian Caterine Ibarguen (triple jump), and the last two pole vault World champions Shawn Barber of Canada and Sam Kendricks of the US. Partnering Clarke in the men’s 400 metres hurdles is Commonwealth champion Kyron McMaster from the British Virgin Islands. There were two Jamaican winners at the last Continental Cup as Veronica Campbell-Brown took the 100 and Kaliese Spencer crowned a great season by winning the 400 metres hurdles.
