Source = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J Indonesian carrier, Garuda Indonesia has more than doubled its revenue for the first half of the year, experiencing a 131 percent increase in operating profit compared to the same period 2011.The jump to US$10.8 million was ushered up by a 22.4 percent increase in passenger numbers to 9.6 million and a passenger yield increase of 4.1 percent.Maintaining its passenger and revenue growth, Garuda said its flight frequency also increased by 18.6 percent compared to the first six months last year with up to 72.693 flights taking off between January and June in 2012.The airline’s vice president Bagus Y Siregar contributed growth to the carrier’s Quantum Leap Program, a revenue growth plan that includes an expansion to its flight network, improved service offerings and upgrades on the carrier’s fleet.According to results, the Australian market contributed to the airline’s growth during the first half of the year, with a 20 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.Mr Siregar explained the increase from down under was strong in both inbound and outbound across the country. “…the stand out route this year has so far been our Melbourne – Denpasar service which increased its average seat load factor to 74 percent,” he added. “We’re also very pleased to see the increased demand in Executive Class with seat load factors rising by 9.12 percent on all routes.” This year, Garuda said it expects to welcome up to 20 new aircraft including four Beoing 737-800NG, two Airbus A330-200, nine Airbus A320 and five Bombardier CRJ1000 Next Gen.
