Vijender Singh likely to fight professional bout in Delhi

first_imgVijender Singh, who will not be a part of India’s Rio Olympics campaign, is likely to soon fight a professional bout in Delhi. The Bhiwandi boxer’s promoters confirmed he would be slotted into some kind of title bout at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the national capital. However, no dates have yet been finalised.Vijender turned pro early this year and got off to a sensational start to his career, storming to victory over Sonny Whiting of England at the Manchester Arena.”At the moment, most of Vijender’s learning and development are taking place in the gym,” said Francis Warren of Queensberry Promotions which showcases his fights.”But by his fifth or sixth fight, we’ll be looking to put him on in some form of title fight – perhaps WBO Asian – before 20,000 in Delhi. We’re confident he’d draw 12,000, if we put him on there now in a four-rounder!”And he’s eligible for the Commonwealth title so that would be a logical next step,” he was quoted by a boxing website.”There was huge disappointment that he would not be a part of India’s Olympic team for 2016 but we’re going to help make him India’s first-ever world champion,” he claimed.Vijender will take on Dean Gillen in his second bout on Saturday in Dublin in a four-round contest.last_img
